Shark Fin Soup is a culinary dish enjoyed particularly by Chinese, Malayasian and Thai people. Sharks are vital to maintain the health of the seas and oceans. Due to this demand, not for the whole fish but just their fins, over 73 million sharks are killed every year. Worse still, they are not killed and consumed in their entirety, but to save costs, the sharks have their fins removed and are thrown back into the water. Just imagine a human having their arms and legs chopped off and then being asked to swim.
This is not fishing for sustenance or desperate living. This is not even basic human needs that are being addressed. Shark Fin Soup is consumed by the rich, spoiled, and stupid. The counter argument that people have a right to consume what they wish is not correct as these are shared resources. We have no right to prejudice others and this practice hurts the globe and hurts innocent people. More people are harmed by this practice than benefit from it.
Shark Finning is instinctively and morally wrong. Fight back. Either go to sea with a chainsaw and hack of the fishermen’s arms and throw them into the sea OR raise awareness of this practice and shun the soup, its consumption and its consumers. It is not cancel culture. Nature cannot defend itself. It needs humanity and people who care to do so!
