A Choice of Governance

1.00 FUP

Democracy is messy, frustrating, a muddling mess and interminably slow in progress. Autocracy seems quicker, more efficient and purposeful. One person or a few people deciding what is right for all of us. All autocracy costs us is FREEDOM.

Imagine a world where we have no independent thought or material to read, where we are fed state sponsored lies, where our freedom of protest, expression, free speech, travel, reproductive rights and right to vote are all curtailed. This is North Korea, China, Russia and every other autocratic state. All autocratic rulers use fear to rule and without exception, all autocratic rulers are themselves fearful and afraid of losing power and influence.

In a democracy, the government we elect is ‘of the people, for the people and chosen by the people’. We choose how we are governed. In an autocratic state, the leaders are not chosen but take power from the people, disenfranchise society and always, always curtail human rights and freedoms. Without freedom, what are we?

Oh, and one other thing, democracies always perform better economically than autocracies.
